Beyond the expected.® That's our company slogan. It means we always raise the bar to provide the best service for our policyholders and our independent agents.
We go Beyond the expected® for our employees, too. That's why Pekin Insurance was named one of the 2020 Best Places to Work in Illinois for the second year in a row.
What makes Pekin Insurance such a great place to work? Quite simply, we value our employees.
Here are some of the benefits and perks we offer.
Flex Time and Summer Hours
Pekin Insurance wants you to thrive in and out of the office. That’s why we offer flex time and summer hours.
Here are some flex schedule examples:
- Working from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. four days of the week.
- Working from 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Working any combination of days and hours that works for you, your department, and your manager.
We offer a summer schedule that lasts from Memorial Day to Labor Day. During that time, most employees work from 7:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Monday through Thursday but work on Friday from 7:00 a.m. to noon.
The arrival of a new child is magical and wonderful. We want you to enjoy it!
Pekin Insurance offers paid parental leave to all benefit-eligible employees after the birth of an employee’s child or the placement of an adopted child in an employee’s home.
Employees receive five consecutive workdays of paid time to adapt to their new family situation and bond with their child.
Cheers! Recognition Program
Recognition programs are becoming more and more popular for increasing employee engagement. Pekin Insurance recently implemented the Cheers! Recognition program. It allows employees and managers to send “Shout Outs!” to each other for a job well done. Managers can also use the platform to give employees awards points that can be redeemed for cool rewards like e-gift cards, Pekin Insurance swag, Café cards, and general merchandise.
On-Site Café and Walking Trail
We want to make the office a place where employees enjoy working. Pekin Insurance has an on-site café, offering a variety of low-cost meals. We also provide several alternative options for employees to switch up how they spend their lunch hours.
When the weather is right, employees and retirees can also take advantage of our walking trail. The Woodlands Trail provides a great space for employees to relax, exercise, and enjoy nature.
Pekin Insurance understands that employees can’t always make it to the office. This is especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pekin Insurance has done a complete 180, with the majority of employees now working from home. This is a new concept for many employees, and the company has provided every resource possible to make remote working and telecommunications an easy transition.
Continuous Online and In-Office Training
Pekin Insurance understands that we will not be successful if our people aren’t. We have a simple formula: hire the best people and then keep investing in them. We offer excellent training programs and continuous education programs so the skills of our employees will always stay up to date. Pekin Insurance offers bonuses for employees who complete career-enhancing courses.
Community involvement is a big part of who we are. Every year, Pekin Insurance employees get 16 paid volunteer hours to spend at a charity or organization of their choice. During our 2019 Volunteer Week, Pekin Insurance employees used almost 500 volunteer hours!
We are proud of our work in local communities, and we’ll continue to support the following charities (and more):
- Boys & Girls Club of Pekin

- St. Jude Runs
- Susan G. Komen

More About Best Places to Work in Illinois
The Best Places to Work in Illinois awards program began in 2006 and is promoted by The Daily Herald Business Ledger in partnership with the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, MRA-The Management Association, the Small Business Advocacy Council, and Best Companies Group.
This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Illinois, benefiting the state's economy, workforce, and businesses.
Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Illinois. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation.
The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Illinois and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final ranking.
