Pekin Insurance Employees Participate in 30th Annual St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run
The St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run has come to be one of the foremost charity running events in the nation. Each year, runners participate in this unique, 465-mile event that has raised over $11 million for St. Jude kids.
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay. Pekin Insurance has been an avid sponsor of this mission for many years.
This year’s run is the 30th anniversary. In addition to being a sponsor of the run, there are four Pekin Insurance employees running in the event. Chris Smith, Underwriting Administration,, and Terry Wade, Claims, will be participating in the Memphis to Peoria Run, while Christina Calvert, Commercial Lines Underwriting, and Eric Higgs, Personal Lines Underwriting, will run in the Pekin to Peoria event. Terry Wade celebrates his 25th year on the Memphis to Peoria Run this year.
Having run in 20 previous St. Jude runs, Chris Smith is also the St. Jude Runners Association Treasurer and was named Volunteer of the Year by St. Jude for the countless hours that he dedicates to the worthwhile organization.
The run will actually culminate in Peoria at the Civic Center where the St. Jude Telethon is kicked off. If you wish to donate to this very worthy organization, please contact one of our Pekin Insurance employees participating in the event or you can visit www.stjude.org/donate. You can also watch the annual telethon on WEEK TV-25 on August 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., and during these times you can call in to make a donation
