Hazards in Your Yard for Cats and Dogs
While planning my spring clean up and planting, I researched the mulch that I like to use. After doing some research, I discovered that cocoa shell mulch is the most toxic mulch money can buy. What I like about this mulch is the smell and how it looks: sweet aroma and a chocolate smell. Dogs really like the smell!
After finding this out, it caused me to look into other toxic hazards that are in our backyard.
One of the websites that is available is www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control. This site will provide you with a list of the vegetation that is toxic to your dogs and cats. The site also provides a list of vegetation that is non-toxic to pets.
It was eye opening to see now many plants and flowers I have that, if eaten, are toxic to my dogs.
Symptoms of poisoning from toxic vegetation can be vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, elevated heart rate, hyperactivity, and even seizures.
So if you have a dog or cat that will eat anything, be alert.
