Three Pekin Insurance employees recently participated in the Drive for Miracles Radiothon held at Children’s Hospital of Illinois and broadcast on 93.3 FM radio station, both located in Peoria, Illinois.

The broadcast raised awareness of the event which was held in the main lobby of the hospital on December 9 and 10, 2015.  Megan Daxenbichler, Human Resources Generalist I; Kim Frederking, Life Claim Business Analyst I; and Emily Rieker, Accountant, worked the phone bank, fielding incoming calls from those making pledges.  They also contacted past contributors to ask for their renewed support.

For every life insurance application submitted, money was donated to the Honor Flight Network which transports veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials.  This is a small tribute to those who gave so much.  Thanks to the combined efforts of the Pekin Insurance independent agency force, the company donated $20,000 to this cause.

IDG’s Computerworld Names Pekin Insurance® to 2015 List of 100 Best Places to Work in IT

Posted by on Jun 22, 2015 in News

DATELINE – June 22, 2015 – IDG’s Computerworld announces Pekin Insurance as a 2015 Best Places to Work in IT, one of 100 top organizations that challenge their IT staffs while providing great benefits and compensation. Pekin Insurance, along with other organizations, will be included in coverage in Computerworld along with results from the 22nd annual Best Places to Work in IT survey.

“Striving to be One of the Best Places to Work in IT is one of my favorite mantras,” says Neal Kaderabek, Vice President – Chief Information Officer at Pekin Insurance.  “Due to the company’s attractive benefits package and sense of community, many employees work at Pekin Insurance for the long term.  What makes Pekin Insurance stand out is the opportunity to build something from the ground up.  More so, is the opportunity for IT professionals to say, “That is mine!  I built that!”  IT personnel are engineers at the core.  Maintaining the status quo is not exciting to an engineer.  Engineers want to build! Pekin Insurance’s 3-year IT transformation journey is a gold mine of opportunity for an IT professional that wants to build and make a difference.”

Besides the ground floor opportunities offered to creative and motivated IT professionals, Pekin Insurance has made other moves to make the organization attractive to IT professionals.  For instance, work from home was implemented for those employees meeting and exceeding performance expectations.  Pekin Insurance also allows paid time off to attend children’s school activities, half-day Fridays, and employee bonding activities such as chili cook offs, salsa contests, after work social events, scavenger hunts, karaoke, golf outings, etc.  Additionally, we offer IT project rooms and open space work areas that encourage collaboration and innovation.   Another instance is professional development is encouraged through attendance and presentations at annual trade conferences, training opportunities, and the development of networks with colleagues from other companies.   IT professionals averaged 10 days of training in 2014.  Yet another example is a 5-Star Program to acknowledge the top performers during a year-end red carpet award ceremony and dinner.   IT professionals are nominated by their peers, and the final winners are selected by the IT senior leadership.  In addition to a plaque and peer recognition, a significant monetary award is also provided to the 5-Star award winners.

“The 100 organizations on Computerworld’s 2015 Best Places to Work in IT list realize that attracting and retaining a highly-skilled technology workforce leads to competitive advantage,” says Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. “In a tight market for tech talent, these outstanding employers attract the best and brightest IT pros with generous salaries and top-drawer benefits, then deepen their teams’ engagement with challenging, business-critical projects built around cutting-edge technologies. As a result, these winning organizations are best positioned to take advantage of the digital transformation sweeping through every industry.”
